we still needed to buy 2 other items to set it up.The cassette adapter is no good of course if you don't have a cassette player in you car. It took many frustrating hours to get it to work right and understand how to change settings when traveling through a large area. The unit itself is well made and it's great to have access to so many stations. the item description was somewhat misleading. Also the manual is just terrible to understand how to set it up and resolve problems.
Its mounted on a 2002 BMW K1200LT motorcycle. Great price and on time delivery. My only complaint with the radio is very minor but I wish they would have made it so that when the radio plugs into the cradle it would latch in place somehow making a tighter and secure connection.Maybe the manufacturer will start making a water proof one designed for motorcycles, that would be perfect.Highly recommend this radio for anyone looking for an XM Radio. I have had it installed for about two weeks now and love the radio. This radio was perfect for my needs.
This was the only problem. We called Audiovox support and were told immediately that we had a defective unit. It worked fine in our home but did not work in our vehicles. At any rate, we kept messing with it instead of taking their word for it and found that the FM modulator was not in the "on" position. After the first Audiovox Express radio we had went t--'s up, we ordered this radio. Works fine and important things to know are: It does fit the cradle for the previous Audiovox Express. I guess they don't have much confidence in their units.
On the other hand that can be a fun on the road game trying to guess who it is and what exactly they are singing; so to each his own. System is able to remember multiple pre-sets which is good because the display is hard to focus on while driving and can take seemingly forever to get to the channel you want. Display has lots of information and features. The direct connection unit (also available at extra cost) would not have the interference issue but could be more difficult for the home user to install. The power supply has a 5 amp fuse in it so make sure that your lighter plug in has enough available. The receiver is detachable and has a home kit available (extra cost) that could allow you to use XM in your home or office. Using the FM connect kit (which isn't included and costs extra) to the antenna can be problematic. You then have to retune the channel on your radio to another frequency with less interference.
It also has the ability to show some sports scores and stock quotes which may be a useful feature. This unit is better than factory because some factory units only display 10 characters and XM is now sending up to 36 characters, song title, singer, year, etc, which on factory units can look like "John Couga" singing "Little Pin" instead of "John Cougar Mellencamp" singing "Little Pink Houses". Unit is very easy to work. As you drive area you run into radio interference from other FM stations that are in the area. The normal installation includes plugging the powersupply into a 12 volt lighter plug in.
I read an article yesterday that said XM is planning to file Chapter 11 soon, so I am not likely to hear from them. No reply from XM radio's customer service after emailing them 3 days ago. To bad I paid for a full year of XM already, which is non-refundable by the way. Radio quit working after two weeks and no audio sound at all. Is now being sent to Audiovox for repair. Looking through the reviews bad radios are common no matter which model of Audiovox you have.
